Titanic lifejacket
While doing a study into Titanic's lifejackets I wanted to make a model of one of them. At first I thought about making one using cloth. But I couldn't find the right materials to get it to look good in scale and color.
So after creating other models out of paper, and being a bit inspired by Rocketmantan's 1:1 Titanic lifejacket, I thought about giving it a try in paper. Because I want to put in into my display cabinet containing my Titanic collection, I chose to go with a different scale. Here's the first steps: After the model is made I am going to use waterbased paint to get it into the correct colors. I'd like to make this into a used lifejacket. Again for this model I used paper and scrapmodel picked up at the framing shop next to the mill. I allready made a small display stand using discarted parts like an end of an old curtain rod. I forgot to put something in to compare size, but the model of the lifejacket itself will be about 12 centimeters high and 6 centimeters wide. Jerry

Thanks Peter,
Here's step two, in this farely simple model. I only the paper won't get to much deformed by the paint when it gets it's first layer of color. Jerry

Dear Jerry:
Are you going to use dental floss for ties? You might use a sanding sealer delta ceramcoat works on paper. Have fun, MILES |

Miles,
I was thinking about using some "rope" I had left over from the rigging of my wrecked Santa Maria model kit. It is allready looking worn. But thanks for the tip! Jerry

Yesterday I picked up some waterbased paint to get modelling again.
But when I added the first layer of paint something didn't look good. I thought I had picked another color from the color chart? The paint dried up much to yellow: So I decided to add some grey, which I picked up yesterday as well, just in case.. This gave it a better look, this was the color I was aiming for: But still it didn't lookexactly right..

So I got together my other bottles of paint and started weathering the lifejacket model.
Adding light and dark brown colors and sponging them together, scrubbing of layers of paint, making it look worn. Then I added some darker color brown.. accidently added to much .. So, I was glad this model had an "inside" as well, so I turned the model inside out, and continued building, added some ties made from painted wool, I had still sticking at the back of un unused photoframe, added a touch of paint, and tied them together at the front: Jerry
