ULCC "Jahre Viking"

The new issue of JSC in 1:400. The Ultra Large Crude-Oil Carrier "Jahre Viking" - nothing less than the largest ship in the world. Even in 1:400 scale a cardboard monster with a length of 44.9 inch. Just imagine this in 1:200...:-))
However, the JSC model in best quality and perfect detail is really something special. Lasercut parts in two sets are available and very helpful but you need at least some more inches of 9 different wire diameters, too.
Well, before starting this cardboard adventure, lets have a closer look on the kit and lasercut sets.

As an appetizer enjoy this youtube video: "Jahre Viking"

By the way, there are a lot of recources of pictures and videos for this ship in the www.

Have fun...

Wow, really looking forward to following this build. The stats on the real ship are just ridiculous; the thing is longer than the Empire State building, could fit the Eiffel Tower on its deck and had a 320-ton rudder which needed two miles to turn the ship around (that's after 5 and a half miles to slow down). Is this just a waterline model or can you build the awesome bulbous bow? And have you found somewhere to put it when it's built?

Hello Joerg,
Certainly looking forward to watching you assemble this giant.
The U-Tube video was an excellent introduction.

Thank you gentlemen, and yes, itīs a waterline model and the pipes have to be done with wire in 9 different diameters.

I started with cutting out roughly the first parts of the central hull segments. With a strong needle and a metal ruler I prepared the folding lines of the unusual zigzag folding of the parts. Each segment should be build seperatly and everything is now prepared to use the first glue on this model. Stay tuned...

Thank you Kevin.

First hull segment is build. I started with the front stringers - assemble carefully, because later on itīs the connection port for the following segments. Secondly, I added side stringers and central stringer for a stable and good shape of the segment. Last but not least donīt forget to weighten the result with a book for a perfect shape of the segment.
