ORP Orzel Maly Modelarz 1:100

A year has gone since my first and last post. Many good and bad things happened in my life. Most important I learned that paper models don't like moving houses...

The boat I mentioned in my first post ORP Kormoran is destroyed along with another S-2 Wilczur (small gunboat serving during the War on English Channel). The biggest lost is Yamato smashed to pieces by my wonderfull kids...

So I'm starting from a scratch (I had 15 years long brake from building models) and in many ways I'm beginner so please don't be sceptical and forgive all my errors...

My son asked me to build a submarine so my choice was ORP Orzel (Eagel) from Maly Modelarz. Brave and tragic warship and her faith is still unknown. Here is some history if you are interested:

Here is first pic. Internal structure all cut, put together but not yet glued.

Internal structure put together without major problems. Only difficulty was fact that some parts must be put on 2mm thick card and some on 1mm. I don't have 1mm thick card but I'm using sligtly thicker 1,5mm card so some slots had to be bit wider. By the way: can anybody tell me where I can buy that sort of card in UK (at this moment I'm ordering it in Poland and it costs fortune to have it send to UK)?

First pieces of hull starts to appear. Again no problems at all.

Looks like your off to a good start.

Hats off to anyone attempting a full-hull ship model.

Looking forward to seeing this one done. I built the Dzik a while back and while I made a number of severe mistakes, it still came out well enough. I had to do some serious sanding and patching to the hull to make it presentable!

No progress on Orzel to report but while I was going through my old pics on laptop I found some images of ORP Kormoran (rest in old shoebox in garage waiting for repairs...). Pics were done September last year.

Things are progressing slowly cause my wife is suffering from rare and weird form of allergy: every time I look towards Orzel she starts to talk louder and she finds me things to do: grass in the garden, shopping, bins...

Anyway still no major problems (I find this disturbing). Couple tiny errors, nothing to worry about. During work on previous models I found that my daughters fret pens (they got hundreds of them, literally every possible color) can do a miracle with those small issues.

The boat is looking fine.
As to wife allergy I suggest a hobby for her. Mine does machine embroidery and doll clothes. You may have to do some cooking but have a lot less trouble with hobby time.

Good luck with your project.
I have always admired the long sleek hull/frame of a submarine like this one.
The framework appears to be simpler than the large surface ships. But the tradeoff I think comes in the hull plating, since the entire thing is an underwater hull. That takes a lot of skill.

Thank you very much to all of you. You are nice and polite guys but I'm aware that my model is far from perfection (I've seen some pictures here on this forum that made my jaw dropped. Straight to the basement).

First big step done. First phase of hull plating finished - all underwater hull is done. I wish I could do it better but... practice makes perfect they say...

I had one problem with piece before last. It was just to small so I had to take off 1mm from internal structure here and there to make it fit.

Chris this is 2008 version.

Again I would like to ask for an advice. I'm using simple PVA glue to do small parts and it did the job with previous models. This one is printed on much better/thinner paper (ORP Kormoran was printed in 1982 or 83) and glue is starting to be an issue. With old models printed on much thicker paper I had no problems at all with PVA glue. On thinner paper if glue starts to tie up it also shrinks slightly and that leaves traces on hull plating. Any advice on that?
