Thomas Freeborn...first build
I am new to paper modeling having joined this site very recently. I have finally completed my first paper build and found it to be a true learning experience. I do not think I have ever worked in such small detail before.
Corey Ertz was kind enough to let me try his Thomas Freeborn (1:250) which after many sputters and false starts…finally made it to a stage that I call completed. He also provided some valuable information as I progressed. So here are a few photos of the progression and my finished product. Mike |

Nice looking ship model. The table texture in the last picture is an added bonus.

You did it! Whoowhoo! And a build thread too. Now that you are hook, will we see more from you? I am working (off and on) on the CSS George page and wow, it is quite small as well at 1/250 scale! You did a great job with the engine details! If you deiced to go on to another one of my ship models, feel free to email me anytime. I actually like all the communication I can get from folks.
Corey

Cool. And that's very good for your first model. Too small a scale for me to work on though, but it's great to see Corey's designs in the scale he designed them in. It really is a great little ship.

Rehab-yep. No getting around the addicting part of this.
I wanted to say that I really like the vents on this. They came out really good. I also like the black over paint. Many ships of the period had black hulls and the printed hull color works, but the black paint seams to make it pop a bit better. And the rigging on the stack is excellent. Nice and tight lines. Great job my friend!

Wow, thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate the support. I read in one of the threads that you folks were very supportive and now I know how true that is.
Doug, Jagolden. Don, Sporticus and Joe…appreciate your review and comments. Bionic modeler…as far as my wife is concerned, she thinks I need rehab now!!..as she watches me try to make those teeny pieces into a model worth looking at. And Corey, regarding the paint…I found it hides numerous faults…actually I did the overpaint to cover my mistakes when I tried to cover up the ”white” edges…I think it did give a metallic look to the hull. I have started another build but didn’t take photos at the start. I’ve started to document my progress and will post again soon. Thanks again Mike |
