San Salvador
Hi Guys
I'm back and started my build on the San Salvador. I'm sure all knows it is available as a free download from the San Diego Maritime Museum, so I'm going to leave it at that. Now this is my first time building a boat/ship if any kind concerning paper modeling. The whole model was printed on A3 Paper and then laminated to the correct (according to me) thickness. All the ribs and hull "skeleton" was laminated on 1.5mm Bison card. When I finished the hull plates I was not very happy with the look and decided to add strips (white bottom part) on the seams and I'm quite happy with the outcome. I reprinted the ship sides on normal A3 paper and laminated an extra layer over the whole model giving it a more "smoother" look. Overall the instructions are very clear and so far the build went well without any problems. Appologies for the quality of the pics but was taken during the night in the room. will take more clear and better pictures on the weekend and post on Monday. |

Is this the Advanced or the Moderate-skill model?
Looking good so far. Frankly this model scares me ...

Hi All
I am not sure if it is the advance or moderate model Vermin King, I think it must be advanced because it has a lot of work and a lot of detail. Appologies for not posting any photos on Monday but was busy sorting out my car's brakes (1972 Ford Grenada MK1) and it was a doozy. Will try and post on Wednesday or Thursday. |

"I reprinted the ship sides on normal A3 paper and laminated an extra layer over the whole model"
That is always a great technique. just reprint, and add another skin. |

FREE San Salvador Galleon Model
Fine work so far, Scott,
You have gotten very far already! Impressive! I look forward to seeing a little bit brighter and more detailed photos soon, but it looks very smooth. Thanks for sharing! / Bengt in Stockholm |

Hard to believe this is your first paper ship model. It speaks both to your paper modeling skill and the quality of the design that your model looks so good.
It has been interesting to see this model develop (in both the Roman Detyna and the Nava versions), and I look forward to seeing the next steps for your model. Don |

Hi All
I will be posting some more pics tomorrow. I found a big issue with the model concerning the dashed lines printed on the side to indicate were the "beams" should go they are completely wrong so I used the picture to work out were the "beams" should be. I can promise you guys one thing there is a lot of cutting involved in cutting the beams. I made my own and the painted every single one with a red-brown color and then only added it to the hull. |

Hi All
Here are some more pics on the San Salvador build and as previously mentioned I placed the beams on the side of the hull looking at ref pictures. The dashed lines indicating were they should be is completely wrong and do not line up. The beams must still be dry brushed with a darker color and then highligted with a lighter color to give it a more realistic wood look. |
