Amerigo Vespucci 1:100 (Fly Model)

Here are a couple initial photos of my current build, Fly Model's Amerigo Vespucci. Except for several mis-numbered formers and hull skins, the model is going together very well. I will post and discuss more as I progress.

Wow, that looks really good! Coming along just fine!
Just going by memory, (which isn't much good anymore) but isn't this one a sailing ship?

Really looking forward to your progress on this beauty!

Looks awesome! This ship has always been one I have wished to model (originally in wood, but perhaps in paper). I look forward to your progress! And, yes, Russell, it is a sailing ship. Very beautiful one, at that! Although it is wood, here is a link to a kit that is a little more pricey than paper!

Looking great! Are all the little details like the cannons paper? They look super! Any chance of a macro on those babies?

Thanks to everyone for their kind words. I have not done much work on the ship today due to switching rooms in the house, including my paper model studio in the guise of an office. Therefore, you have my apologies for the poor photos. I will take the ship outside soon and take some full model shots so you can see how the whole thing looks, including size (it's big).

The cannon (I guess they're guns of some sort) are paper. The cool part is that they rotate on little paper discs built inside the base. They are very delicate, though, leading to me breaking two of them and having to glue them down permanently.

The second pic just shows a little interior detail.

The last two photos show some of the detail work, including individual golden frilly-things I had to cut out individually. Unfortunately, they look like they are merely printed on the paper when viewed from more than one-foot away.

Those look really good! Nice work cutting out the frilly stuff too. :D

If its not too demanding is there any chance of getting a scale cube thrown in there from time to time to get a good idea on size?

Pushy arent I

The wheel house looks very cool! This is coming together very nicely! The pictures of the detail work make it look like so much more than paper! Is the figurehead paper? If so, is it possible to get another angle or two? Thanks!

Yes, please. Something for scale would be nice. Looks like you're doing a great job on a nice model.

I don't have a scale cube yet, so here are some shots showing it's size next to a soda can.
