Question USS Porter

Hi. As I said yesterday in another thread, I've started building the USS Porter from Modelik. I have what might be a dumb question (LOL but the instructions are in Polish). It calls for som pieces to be "glued Bristol". Are these just stiffened with glue.... like CA? If so, is it best to from the back side and before cutting the pieces out? Any other tips/advice are more than welcome. Thanks.

Hello,

They are talking about laminating to increase the thickness of the finished part. Modelik, like most of the other Polish publishers encourages communication. You can ask them WZNOWIENIE: nr kat. 0307: USS PORTER here if you like. Also a few images of the vessel from their gallery.

Kind Regards,

Cris

Thank you

So if I'm understanding you correctly, I glue pieces marked *b to bristol and *0,5 to .5mm... and so on?

Yes. Bristol board can be found in the art supply stores. It is about 0.25 mm thick. You may be able to get away with heavy card stock.

0.5 mm cardboard is usually easy to find from cereal boxes or the like.

1 mm cardboard, I use illustration board for this most of the time.

Most commercial Polish kits have some kind of legend of stars or numbers or a combo of both to denote which parts need laminated and with what thickness.

After a bad experience laminating 1mm board, I got it done. The second day I used Elmers stick glue to laminte the .5mm parts, The next day (after pressed and dry) I checked and the didn't stick well. Then I remembered reading of someone using wax paper with spray adhesive and today I tried. Great is all I can say, I finished in 15 minutes and should start cutting tomarrow.

I always use stick glue for laminating.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures.

I use Super 77 spray adhesive for large lamination items (aka entire sheets that need laminated on same thickness).

I've been using Scotch Permanent Adhesive Dot Roller. I haven't done a full sheet with this stuff - rather I laminate pieces before final trimming. Super 77 for full sheets.
