The lines and colors are very attractive. This has great potential.

I too like the lines of these ships. I find her sister ship, the Matsushima interesting in that the main gun faced to the rear of the ship vs. the front. The thought being her and her sisters could provide fire regardless of attitude to the enemy.

It's a most interesting ship from a period of much experimentation in naval architecture.

Lighter: Those are booms for anti-torpedo nets, a common feature of early 20th century large warships. The booms would be swung out to deploy nets intended to block torpedoes from submarines and torpedo boats when the ship was at anchor. Torpedo net - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia They were replaced between WWI and WWII by torpedo bulges or torpedo belts (a line of compartments along the side of the ship at the waterline intended to absorb the blast of a torpedo), which give the pre-war battleships a distdinctive hull shape.

Thank you for the information and the reference. That was certainly a long lived feature from the USA Civil War through WWI. But until posting of this cruiser I'd not noticed the booms, nets and spars.

There are no parts for the nets, but I might scratch up some wires to make it look like 3d. Interestingly, the turret can swivel. I will try to roll the barrels of the secondary and tertiary guns, but I could easily make them from toothpicks, though colormatching would be difficult. They are the same color as the upperhull, a faint yellowish pink.
