You know half the fun is the research for the project to get a mental picture of just what you are building.
I have come across some more photos I would like to share.

I am not sure the 1st photo is Shokaku, seems the bow is too low. Looks more like the later Unryu class.

FYI - Shokaku's attacker, the USS Cavalla (SS-244), is preserved at Seawolf Park in Galveston Texas. I visited her earlier this year with my wife. Unfortunately my camera battery died and I'd forgotten the charger.

You could very well be correct, I found the photo listed as the Shokaku, but after you pointed out the bow as being too low, it also looks to be also of a differant shape bow as well. As always, please feel free to comment and correct if needed.
Rick

No photos as of yet, have laminated some formers and skins for the Island, will post some photos when together.
NimitzFan> read the Cpt's report for the engagement of the IJN Shokaku,
he states that the AC presented itself as a perfect target for a full spread shot of the Cavalla. A spread of fish left the tubes and ran on course.
The torpedos were spotted, but too late. The fish struck home, one torpedo hit @ the forward elevator igniting the avation fuel fumes, then the fuel itself went, the crew fought hard to contain, down to guys fighting the fire w/buckets. When the crew who had saved the ship twice before realized that this time there was no saving her, the ship's Captain ordered a muster of the crew, a roll call made and after this abandon ship was the order. As the brave men stood for roll call, hell around them, the ship listed causing many brave men to fall into the buring pyre that was now the forward deck elevator. Most of the ship's crew perished abourd this vessel because of poor orders, but they stood the line. You gotta to respect that, no matter if friend or foe!

Hello Rick,
Count me in the audience. I enjoy watching the old IJN carriers being built. With their minimal (or none at all) superstructures, they have a unique look.
Mike
