Had some time today to work on the Shokaku......have all the parts that required lamination glued up, the rest of the Island structure is cut out and am now using my Japanese Hole Punch to open up the port holes, which will then be lined w/fine wire and backed w/film.
Of the tools I have purchased, this is one of my fav's. Rick

I am torn about how to depiect the vessel, as she looked @ the Attack on Pearl Harbor or as she appeared @ her last battle. Any suggestions?

As I have researched, @ the attack on Pearl Harbor, I do not see the Mattress Radar, but @ the end of her career, she sported this piece of equipment. Also I have found 2 photos that show the Island in sections covered w/sand bags while attacking. Pearl Harbor.

My vote: I am always partial to the oldest configuration.

As for which version, I believe the Pearl Harbor carriers had (mostly) natural wood flight decks. The ones that survived until late in the war had their flight decks painted in camouflage. And naturally their AA armament was increased as the war continued. David T. Okamura |
