Smile Dutch WWII destroyer Hr.MS. Van Galen

Hello fellow modelers,

After introducing myself at the "Welcome desk" I have decided to start a thread about my current build. This is my first papermodel ever, so don't blow me out of the water .

The model is from Modelik in Poland and the scale is in 1:200. I also ordered the lasercut frames for the hull, generic railing, stairs, ladder and metal barrels.

In the pictures below you see where I am now building this nice model.

Ciao Andrew

Great build. The thing is armed to the teeth! How many torpedo tubes, 12? And at least three guns? A lot of hardware for such a small ship! Cool.

Hello Andrew,
It looks too good to be a "first" model.
Very well done so far.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the kind comments.

Billy: the schip is about 50cm long. On the pictures it looks small, but the piston is one of a B24 bomber.

CT: enough guns to make me happy. Another main gun will be placed on the foredeck. Further arnament is 1 x 7,5 cm, 4 x 40 mm, 4 x 12,7 mm and 6 x 533 torpedotubes. Also a Fokker waterplane will be placed.

At this moment I am bussy to build the platform for the Fokker. Will post some pictures of the progress tomorow.

Ciao Andrew

Processing the platform for the Fokker

Hi guys,

Because I had some time left I was able to fix the platform for the Fokker waterplane. A you can see is cutting the small parts of the deck not yet my thing .

Also the thing for the divers of the waterplane can be better. Therefore I see this model than also as a practise model to learn how to build a ship from paper. After de deck dryed from the glue I can paint the white stripes. I use Vallejo Model Color for this, because it dry very fast. All the big stuff is now build, so I can start with all the little details on the ship. So there is a lot more to come. When I received the model I was very surprised that it had so much detail. Actually, if I see the ships on this forum, it is really amazing what is posible with superdetailling these ships.

Thats for now.

Ciao Andrew

Hi Herky,

Good to hear that your also building a Hr. Ms. Van Galen. The Van Galen from Scaldis, is that not a former British destroyer? I like the construction of British destroyers a lot. Because the world of papermodeling gives me a lot of pleasure, I ordered the HMS Matabele, a Tribal class destroyer, as next build after the Van Galen.

Ciao Andrew
