GPM U-Boat Hecht

Hi Folks,

This kit was given to me by one of my model-club buddies. He had won it in the Dundee Show raffle and as he knew my prediliction for all things paper, he presented it to me with the statement "you might like this, it's paper". Thank you Steven!

Anyway, a quick and simple build (famous last words?), as it's basically just cylinders and cones. So, off to a good start. I tackled the tricky nose section first, always a difficult process for me this type of curved section. It has turned out ok I suppose, but I am not alltogether happy with the outcome. There were some gaps, but I managed to hide any glaring mistakes with some acrylic paint.

The kit is excellent, as can be expected from GPM. It is well-engineered, has good colour register and definition and the addition of the Laser-Cut set certainly aids in a swift and accurate build

Some progress.
All sub-assemblies went together without a hitch
I found the torpedo support cradle to be a bit too flimsy for my liking, so I added some internal support from 2mm greyboard. Once complete, it forms a nice support and stops it rolling off the workbench.

All the best and happy modelling

Bernie

Hi Bernie,

You have really done an impressive job with the hull. The nose looks very good (and very scary to put together for us amateurs).
