Qm2

Now with the hull sides on. Clearly showing the large size of this vessel. The pieces went together with ease.

An excellent start on this beautiful ship, John!

I will be watching with keen interest as you proceed...a bit different from the ACW vessels, but a very nice departure. You've made very good progress in this build, she's very impressive!!

Cheers!
Jim

Great model. Yes it is a big ship and really beautiful inside. A shot from the dock with a Russian sub displayed next to it. A shot from one of the ballrooms we sneaked into. My aunt and her daughters spend a couple of nights on it for her 80th birthday celebration. I also had the honor of attending a banquet there for the Kaiser Frazer Owners Club National Convention back in the late 80s with a tour of the ship.

I think that's the Queen Mary, whereas this build is of the successor, Queen Mary II...but JSC also makes a model of the Queen Mary too, I believe...

Cheers!
Jim

P.S. I don't know what the story is, but there seems to be a dearth of older JSC models available...even the JSC store says they are out of print and temporarily not available...not sure what that is all about! Any know a good source for them?

Christopher from Marcle models tells me the JSC Queen Mary (original) is out of print and they have no plans to re-issue an updated version. A real shame, ir would be nice to have to two, unfortunately I've no idea where I'm going to put this one. Looks like a major re-arrangement of models on display is going to have to be done.

Thanks, John:

You know, that is a real shame...I lost my entire JSC collection due to flooding caused by Sandy, and was hoping to restock my collection of these beautiful kits, but it now looks like I have to keep my eyes open for any which are available on eBay, if I can find any.... Very sad that JSC doesn't see fit to keep their kits in stock and to re-publish them so everyone can enjoy those models....I just don't understand that thinking....

Jim

Jim,

I'm really sorry to hear you lost your collection. This is the first JSC kit I've built and am very impressed so far. Yesterday I made a start on the aft decks, not quite complete yet.
