Hello, Andrew!
An excellent progress on this ship. I like all these types of destroyer leaders (like USS Porter class, French Mogador, Soviet Tashkent etc.etc.)
Just a tiny correction on the armament: The original main guns were 4 twin turrets Mk XII dual purpose 120 mm L/45 with an elevation of 40°. But after the beginning of WWII, the third 120 mm twin (X-position) was replaced by an AA capable Mk XIX 102 mm twin gun, to cope better with the air attacks by the Luftwaffe (and also being lighter than the Mk XII). The light AA armament was a quadruple 40 mm Pompom and 2-4 AA MG 12,7 mm; later several 20 mm Oerlikon AA MG were added. - NB: The Afridi and Gurkha (I) did not receive the 102 mm AA Mk XIX, as they were sunk in 1940 off the Norwegian coast by the Luftwaffe.

Oleg, the scale is 1/200 (as with most of the Polish and Russian ship models.)

Kind regards -
Papercaptain

Hello Don, Mike, Oleg and Papercaptain,

Thanks for your kind words. Don, I didn't knowthese books. But thanks anyway for this link. I'am always interested in books about naval warfare during WWII. I have already a lot of books, but most of them are about the Dutch navy during WWII. Some stories are really impressive and unbelievebale. Mike, they platform was a joy to build. Always nice to do some scratch building by yourself. Oleg, thanks. Sometimes things come easy and sometimes it's a hard job to do some building. The scale is 1:200. I like them big. Papercaptain, I'am also a fan of the workhorses of the sea. And especially the big ones. So don't worry, I keep it by destroyers, because I first want to try to build a good underwater ship (hull). Next to my build of the Matabele I am already looking for info about the French destroyer Jaguar or Kersaint. Also thanks for the info about the armament. Very interesting.

At the moment bussy with the second funnel. I will post some pics later today or tomorrow.

Regards Andrew

Hello Don,

That's a promise Jaguar, Kersaint of the big one Mogador. I also like them a lot and probably one of them will my next build after HMS Matabele.

Well, like al already tol'd I've been bussy with the second funnel. I added some details and quite easy to build. Fot the small pipe I used again styrene tube. When the parts of the funnel were drying I also started to railings at the after deckhouse. To glue them on the deck I used this time some thicker CA glue and it worked very well. Next job is to install some more ladders, boxes and some AA armament.

Ciao Andrew

Hi Andrew,

very nice done. I like your using different material for the details: even colour and style fits nicely together.

Greetings
Dieter
