Dutch Cruiser De Ruyter/Zeven Provincien C801/802
Dear Cardboard- sailors and Cardboard -engineers,
Today I will start a Topic on building the new reprinted and released kit from the Dutch light Cruisers De Ruyter and or De Zeven Provincien. From origin a Cardboardmodel printed in the Sixties now reworked by JSC into a complete and beautifull Cardmodel in a 1:350 scale, so great to complete the Dutch Armed fleet in that era.As You know I build a Diorama of the Karel Doorman (see my topic on that matter)so I will try to build this one in the same dimensions so it can be fitted to one another. There's also a Destroyer in the kit,de Zeeland, but first we are building the De Ruyter. Why this ship, well I have build her before, from cardboard, sailing, radio controlled in a 1:100 scale ,but the size ,190cm's,can't handle that anymore so she now rests in the study of a former Navy Officer. Enclosed some pictures of the Kit and the Big model. See the different hull shape's and the beautifull laser cut parts. Start sharpening my scissors,be back soon. Jos |

Hello Jos,
Looking forward to your build of this beautifull dutch cruiser. As far as I can see it looks wonderfull. Especially the LC parts. Did both ships see action in the waters around "Nieuw Guinea"? Regards Andrew |

De Ruyer,Royaloakmin and Bluenoser hope to keep up with your expectations!
The first Picture's of the build. Since I want to put here in high sea's I needed to improve hull hight so I draw to te hull and frame's a extra 2 mm's. Putting the hull together is straightforward and since I opened the Porthole's I had to paint the white superstructure black on the right positions. After that glued on the 3 decks.Building method is easy explained in drawings as well in writing. Hull and deckhouses later. Regards Jos |

A few more pictures,
First picture shows the black spots for the hull portholes, then the fitting of the first hull layer, since I want to show the Armourplating I double the Hull ,there are extra parts left from the Zeven Provicien hull exept for the middle part which I doubled in plain paper. Shows now the increase in Hull height. The next Photo's show the detail on the Deck houses and their reinforcement. Forelast picture show the A deck underside, painted grey, nobody will see but I know if it's not grey! Cheers for now,Jos |

Hello Jos, is the kit exactly the same detailed as the veritas print? I have made a model of Hr.Ms. De Zeven Provinciën (C 8202 ) but it's a simple straight forward model with not much details. I saw your posts about the Hr.Ms. Karel Doorman. I really liked it and the model seems to have more details then the Veritas Model. I also made the veritas models of the Hr.Ms. Limburg and Hr.Ms. Overijssel. My dad served on all the ships mentioned (De Doorman included). I'm interested what the new reprints will look like when they're finished so I will certainly follow your posts on the forum.
