Hello guys,
Marco and Bluenoser, thanks for your kind words. I completed the underwatership. The shafts were made completely from paper and give it some extra strenght by using ca glue. Interesting is the fact that those shafts are situated on different locations on the hull. Probleby because of the location of the turbines in the ship? The propellors are looking great. I am not satisfied with the underwaterhull after painting it. I see to much the parts of the LC frame. So I will give it some more paint jobs. I also made a start with one of the deckhouses. Details are outstanding. More to come! Ciao Andrew |

During the 20's and 30's, there were many narrow ships built whose prop shafts did not line up, but whose propellers did. Although designers try to avoid this, it still sometimes happens that the point where the propeller shafts leave the hull does not line up with each other. This used to be fairly common on ships with narrow hulls, especially those built with purchased machinery. It was easier to change the hull than to change the engine. But you'll notice that the designers always wanted the props to be lined up, if at all possible. The result will affect the ship's maneuverability, but hopefully not it's normal straight-line speed. The ship's officers will usually find that the ship always turned to one direction faster than the other. That isn't unusual in ship handling: every single screw ship does it. Generally a single screw ship will turn faster when swinging opposite to the direction of prop rotation. So if the prop rotates clockwise, the ship will turn faster to port than starboard. If the prop rotates counter-clockwise then the ship will turn faster to starboard.

Bridge structure
Hello Tim, Jeff and Nimitzfan,
I was able to make a flat deck thanks to a plate of LC . The hull is looking oke from a distance, but the closer you get it has some faillures. However, for a starting papermodeler it is not to bad I guess . Nimitzfan, thanks for your explanation. It is always nice if you know some extra information about these maritime questions. This afternoon I did some more work on the bridgestructure. The instructions were in my opinion some poor, but on the other hand everything worked out with some patience and looking on the pics of the booklet. Ciao Andrew |

Hello Dieter en Don,
Thanks for your comments. Dieter, I have a nice showcase, but unfortunately I can only put ships in it with a maximum size of 70 cm . So I will probably build a lot of destroyers until I have no space left in my showcase and have to buy a larger one . Don, It is also interesting to see how the designers and brands showing their instructions in the booklet. Sometimes I have the feeling that I'm bussy with a puzzle, but without a picture. Because of this everything is going a little bit slow. I continued my work on the bridge and the middle deckhouse. Ciao Andrew |
