Carl, any of the schemes would make a wonderful model. #3 seems to be a group favorite and I would have to agree.

Looks like you have many hours in this 3-D model before you even put paper to blade.

Belay that and brace the yards, Carl, it is beautiful. You have to just love the British names of the ships of war, except perhaps the HMS Pickle. :D

I have heard that in the between-the-wars years, HMS Repulse and Renown spent so much time in dock that they were known around the fleet as HMS Refit and Repair.

And, when the large, thinly armored, and huge-gunned battlecruisers (later aircraft carriers) Glorious, Courageous, and Furious appeared, theywere collectively known as the "Outrageous Class".

And as I recall (I'm working from memory here) in the classic novel by Nicholas Monsarrat, The Cruel Sea, Captain Erickson, taking command of HMS Compass Rose, a Flower (or Gladiolus) class corvette, counts himself lucky that he was not given command of HMS Stinkwort. There actually was no Stinkwort, but there were Bullrush, Fennel, Eyebright, and many more that might strike some as odd-sounding -- not to mention the USS Pert and Vim.

HMS Bee, Aphis, Ladybird, Scarab, Tarantula, Cockchafer and others.

C'mon Fred, you are my last hope! If I go with #4, it is safe but I don't actually see any photos of this version. I could pale out the blue but it is still a LOT of blue

I really just cannot cover up that much stuff with black...

BTW, you are on my "favored" list for actual talking about the model rather than frippery. Hmph.

Did you notice the semaphores?

Carl

Since this was suggested I have made version #2 with lighter blue sides in case that will sway anybody.

Nice image of that boat. But I'm afraid I can't help identify much in the way of color. It looks to me like just blacks and whites and of course, some greys here and there. Gettint those colors right would require some study. Looks like another great classic subject.
