Excellent work, Mike. Your attention to detail never fails. On a side note: Great find on the photo o the davits from on the ship.

Outstanding precise work, Mike, and excellent vintage images. I like the steam launch with the awning in the last image.

Thanks David.

Thanks Jeff: Yes, that close up image of the davits shows a lot of detail. It gives me some ideas on how to hang some of the boat/davit rigging.

Thanks Don: Most of the images show the steam launch with the awning. But a few show it without. Carl provided it with the kit, but I decided to leave it off so that the interior details could be seen. You can see the awnings on the steamers in Carl's prototype.

Thanks Greg!

Thanks Glen. The two French battleships that GB designed and released to the public (Iena & Massena) have very similar boats. Massena's boats have a bit more complexity to the hull. So Iena's boats are slightly easier to build. I think, out of the (8) ships I have built, the boats on Iena were the best designed and easiest to assemble.

Very nice work

Hi Michael,

Your work on masts and the small embarcations is really nice. It's very profitable to read you post and look at the pictures of your work.

28 - Railing, Davits And Boats

Thanks Kristenkf and Didier for the kind remarks.

Work continues installing the boats, davits, carriages and handrails. Adding some rigging makes the davits look complete. Image 245 shows the midship davits on either side of the large and small steamers. I plan to hang boats from the next set of davits just aft of midship, but work is needed on the boarding ladders before the boats are hung. Image 246 shows the upper platforms for the aft boarding ladders.

I included a pair of historical images showing boat deployment. I particularly like the second image with a panoramic view of all the davits at work. The angle of this picture reveals an enormous amount of detail including excellent views of the boarding ladders, and various crew members at work.

Regards,
Mike
