29 - Railing, Davits And Boats

Thank You very much Don, Glen and David!

Work continues installing the boats and davits. Before hanging boats from the main-deck-aft davits, I thought it would be wise to get most of the boarding ladder pieces built and installed. It lies directly below the area where the boats will hang from the davits. The first image shows the main components. At this point I installed them all, except for the section that takes the sailors from the catwalk down to the waterline. That will wait till the very end of the project, to minimize the risk of damage. Because the boarding ladder parts are black, I had a difficult time getting a good image of them with the black upper hull as the background. So image 250 is a close-up from overhead. It is still difficult to see the boarding ladders, but it seems to be the best I could do.

After that, I installed two whale boats, railing, davits and rigging. Finally on the starboard side I hung the 11-meter boat, and on the port side I hung one of the large steamers.

Included are a pair of good historical images, with plenty of davits and boats in use.

Regards,
Mike

Superb model. Wonderful historical images. They show just how closely you have replicated the original.

Thanks Klaas, Don, David and Greg!

Klaas:
One of the sources of fun is the photography.
I'm always experimenting to get better images.
