S.S. Nomadic 1:250 scale

Well, it has been a while, but finally back to papermodelling.
So here we go, the first steps of building the White Star Line tender S.S. Nomadic, the tender that took passengers and mail to and from aboard the Titanic at Cherbourg.

The base and formers in place:

SS Nomadic Tender

Great start, Jerry!

I will be following your thread, too. Good luck with the build - it's a fine model.

All the best,
Bengt

Thanks for the comments and following of this thread

Here are the next steps in building this fine model;

I continued by adding the side formers and glueing the entrance doors in place.
After that the forward and stern decks were to be installed.

The stern deck also had some additional parts like a well deck (part 20). First I assembled this deck and adding parts 20 A and B, I thought these might be some kind of covers, or perhaps walls to end up attached to the overhanging roofs attached to the sterndeck, I am not sure I installed these parts correctly.

While installing the welldeck to the base formers I found that this part had tabs, but tabs were allready installed on the formers, so one set of these can be cut off. I thought it would be easier to cut off the tabs at the welldeck part, as it was 'loose' part. After clipping off the extra tabs I installed the welldeck to the formers:

Then the sterndeck could be installed, so I cut part 21, scored and fold it, but I noticed some other parts being numbered 21 a, b, and c as well. I found no clue in the build manual as how to use them, but I figured these might be formers to add to the bottom of the sterndeck, which could later be used to glue the Nomadic's hull:

In the insert the welldeck and sterndeck can be seen installed with the attached tabs (parts 21 a, b, c)

Then as last, for today, the forecastle deck was installed:

In the first post I forgot to place a pen in front of the model to show it's size, so here it is

Ahhh Jerry, so wonderful to see you back, and doing what you love best. Will be following with my usual interest in these models and moreso your building of them - a treat is always the case from you.

Thanks Peter for your comment, I wonder where you stayed

Today I did some small work.
First I punctured the bottom here and there to create openings for future rigging of the model, then I added the hull to the model.

Again, as with my Titanic model, the stern always seems to give me some trouble, but I managed,

Here's the model with it's hull attached and a mast to be fitted.
The mast still needs to be carved into shape, but one thing I'd like to know, what would be the hight of the mast in this scale for this tender?

With regards,

Jerry

Jerry, the stern of these beauties is really hard to build - no matter how many times we build them. The curves and pinches to get them right is hard, we also have to remember that the the top off the hull coming to the decks also has to be catered for, and at the same time... hard but we always achieve a good result. Your build is coming along very nicely.

Dear Jerry:
Two questions, one is that the bamboo skewer sanded to shape or some other wood? And Why are you building this model in 1:250 when your Titanic is in 1:200? I guess the museum classes in my past would have me thinking same scale and in the harbor together.
Thanks,
MILES
I stand in wonder of your modeling ability.
