Steve, wow what a small world! I think it must have been in...1986 or 87 that we did Vancouver for the Expo. That's very cool! I smile to think of you goggling at the ship and me (all of 18 at the time) goggling right back at you! Have you settled on a project yet? Don't be put off by vast numbers on any of these ship models. If you look at my or anyone's threads you will see that it its just a matter of building many small sub assemblies that slowly come together over time. Really, the only thing to get the hang of is the small scale (generally, 1:200, 1:250, 1:400 for ships). PM or email me if you w

Yes, 1986.... I was in Stanley Park along the sea wall when you sailed into English Bay that day...Hope you had a good time at Expo...That was a great summer that changed the city forever. If you haven't been back since, you probably would hardly recognize the place. Glass condo towers everywhere...

I kinda get your point about taking these large projects and breaking them down into small manageable builds....less intimidating. Haven't decided on anything yet but It'll be something simpler than a carrier build to start off. Thank you for the pm offer...Might take you up on that!

Steve

Depending how far you want to take 'aircraft carrier' there are also paper models of the USS Macon airship, the Dutch aircraft-carrying subnarine Surcouf (Fly Model 1/100 and JSC 1/400), and the Japanese I-19(?)

Oh, and one aircraft carrier model I forgot, although I've bought it as a 1/250 scale cardmodel around 1996, is the "Graf Zeppelin" by GPM, published in both scales, 1/200 and 1/250. Like the Schreiber "Graf Zeppelin" it's out of print for some time now, but occasionally is offered at e-Bay.
Kind regards.-

Hello, Gents!

I served in the US Navy for 24 years on submarines and remember making quite a few simulated torpedo runs on those big, giant targets!

I love ships of all types and look forward to my first carrier build in paper.
