My next build...

Need some help guys.

I've done the 1/100 thing now. I've got that itch taken care of...

Now I'm thinking of going the opposite direction. I'd like to do a reduction like YuG did on the Fuso...

I'm having thoughts of doing either:
1/500 version of Fly Model's USS Portland - heavy cruiser
or
1/500 version of Modelik's RN Giulio Cesare' - battleship

Both are designed to be 1/200, so I'm doing about a 60% reduction to get to the small scale.

Cast your votes, as I need some help deciding which to do. I had thoughts of doing IJN's Nachi or Tone, but dismissed them rather quickly after looking at Jim's Isuzu thread once more. I can't tackle that kind of detail at 1/500.

Thoughts?

Hmm, this will interesting! I've looked at both now and I guess I'd have to go with Giulio Cesare.

Two votes for Cesare'. This will be fun...

Here's a photo of the cover for each model. Ron, unfortunately the model doesn't include red/white barber shop pole f'csle. That's one thing I love about RN ships that set them apart from other nations. This Cesare' is in a pre-WWII fit, probably early 30's or late 20's???

My vote to Cesare !!! a really nice ship.
there are not italian battlesips at this scale, so you can build the first !! .
Note:
Maybe the reduction are larger. at 60% the resulting scale are 1:333 or so. Or you mean reducing to 40% (100-60) to 1:500 ?.
Saludazos .

I would have to agree, the Guilio Cesare in that scale should be a good test of your patience.

My vote goes with the battleship.
Since I know nothing about that boat, it would be a learning experience following your build.

Thanks very much guys. It's shaping up to look like Cesare'.

Papiro, I believe your are right about that reduction percentage. I may have inverted my calculation. When all else fails, I put a ruler on both the length and width of the model parts to make sure.

At 1/500 Cesare' will be a little over 15" long and little over 2" wide.

Go for the BB, I built Fly's Portland in her original scale, I believe the BB would better reduced. Fly's Portland in 1/200 might be the best I have ever done. See the attached from before I knew of this site.

Talk to Jim Krauzlis..., He went that direction and he's now known as "Squinty"...,

Sorry Jim.
