Schreiber-Bogen Hohentwiel 1/200

Looking for a model to be built, I found this paddle-wheeler in a hobby store in my hometown.
The boat, which was launched in 1913, is still sailing today on Lake Constance,

and this is his site.

As usual I prefer small models, so I reproduced at half scale the original model.

below the main steps of its construction.

In reducing to half the size, I used a cardboard perhaps too thick, but I managed to fix the error.

Unfortunately I was not able to reproduce the rails with the wires, but I still wanted to make three-dimensional bollards.

I populated the deck of seats and tables, and I built the boats.

Finally, flags, mast, chains, shrouds and stays.

The end result is delicious, even if I would like to reproduce in a more realistic way the side rails, and maybe change something (transparent windows?) and add the awnings covering the ship as the true one. But you have to know how to set realistic goals and leave the subsequent improvements to the next models.

I hope you enjoy my build.
Best regards, Nando

Very nice looking model. The information on the actual ship is interesting.

Very nice build, and it is always good to find a model of something you are familiar with.

Hi, Nando!
Very nicely built, my compliments! Thank you for sharing the pictures. Just a tiny error: the german flag at the stern is wrong side up - from top it should be black-red-gold ("mustard"), whereas the yellow-red-yellow at the bow shows the colours of Baden (once a Duchy between the Rhine and Lake Constance).
Kind regards,-
Papercaptain

Great build! I've been on a trip with the original, your model reflects the charm of the ship very nicely!

Thank You Papercaptain for the observation about the correct position of the German flag: as you can see I promptly corrected the model

Thank you Thorsten, mainly because you saw the real one. Just a question: did you do the boat's trip to the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen?

I'd like in the future go to visit the Zeppelin Museum and now i can plan a trip on the Hohentwiel.

I looked at the schreiber-bogen site and I found the new and improved version of the model: the awnings, more details, the complete hull, the detailed paddle-wheel ... :(

Patience ... next time i'll be more accurate in my search.

Best, Nando

Nando,

as far as I remember we started at either Friedrichshafen or Meersburg and made a full round as we had to find our car again, but it was about 10 years ago. It's surely worth a visit as you can see the huge lever of the drive moving inside the ship, this left a great memory.

The Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen is also a great place to go, I've been there several times. There was a really nice museum shop some years ago with some paper models (mainly Schreiber) where my father got me a kit every holidays. But it was changed to a more "modern" shop without anything special. The old shop now has a new location some feet away directly at the promenade, into the direction of the big water fountain. It's also worth a visit.

Just make sure that you plan your visit not too late in the winter as Friedrichshafen is virtually empty then and it's hard to find an open restaurant, what was the case during my last visit there in February 2012 ;-)

Best regards,
Thorsten
