GPM doesn't release its kits as PDFs. If you downloaded the Bismarck kit, it's a pirated kit, distributed without the publisher's permission and in violation of GPM's copyright.

Paper model ships have been turned into floating RC models, so it can be done. One technique for waterproofing the hull is to wax it, though I'm not sure how it's done. For me, as much time and effort as I spent building the Bismarck, I don't want it anywhere near water! Even if the hull were made watertight, I don't know how one would protect the paper upper works.

Does anyone else have ideas? The Bismarck would certainly make an impressive RC model!

David,
Absolutely brilliant work! Very well done. This one should win an award as well.

Chris

I think that a few layers of clear yacht varnish would be sufficient enough to waterproof the main artwork of the fore and aft superstructure i would have to do some test pieces of a couple of different ideas that i have although i am not an expert i do like a challenge.
I think i will go with the idea of very basic plank on frame hull then plank the deck.
I will also consider using 1:200 scale photo etched parts which will not need waterproofing just painting. The Bismark kit i am building is the Niemiecki Pancernik which i think is a polish kit. I have lots of ideas of what to build just not how to build them i just want some advice this is my first card build. I have built many plastic many plastic models over the years so i fancied a change.

You've certainly come to the right place for advice. This is a great community. Welcome!

Finally started work on my Bismark, i have cut the deck parts out and have decided to make my own 1/16 x 1/16 x 2" deck planks and have cut the holes out for the steps leading to the lower decks.
I haven't started sanding the planks yet that's the next job to do. I have cut out the parts where the superstructure go because i intend to convert the kit to radio control. some of the parts will be scratch built from brass and aluminium plus thick card and anything else i can get my hands on.
I have ordered the 1:200 Bismark AA photo etch parts so going to start them out soon. i have also made a start on cutting out all the other parts that build the ship. I could be here for a long time so watch this space.
