IJN Yamato 1/200
Hello Folks.....this is my 1st attempt at a card model....so hopefully embarking on a steep learning curve
I chose the IJN Yamato as it is BIG... so not so many miniscule fiddly parts as other models of the same scale Easier to find if the parts go flying Frames made from 2mm cardboard and 1mm for sub decks Dry fitted together at moment giving a length of approx 132cm |

Hi deeps !
You are incredibly brave to start this huge model ! (Scots are brave ) Excellent choice, and worth months (or years) of modelling joy ! Am buidling the Prince of Wales 1/200, and that's a real challenge as weel. |

I think if you have a mind to do ships you must know a lot of the subject first and the time period in which the ship was active. This was a very noble ship and should have had a better death. I hope you stay with this project to the end and allow us to follow along. A fitting end to a beautiful lady at bad times. I’m looking forward to your model. wc

I assume you're building Halinski's Yamato. If so, it's an excellent choice. In building GPM's Bismarck, I've found that a model this size is not harder than smaller models, there is just more of it. If you find yourself against a wall, ask for advice here. If you're not sure how to approach an assembly, you can photocopy the parts and test build. Above all, take your time, dry fit, think ahead.
Any large ship is an ambitious project, but not out of reach. --David

Good luck, this form of modeling is far more tedious than most others. I would have recommended something smaller just to hone your skills. If you get the chance Digital Navy has a couple of free downloads that take only a short time to build and will work your skills with little cost.
The Halinski kit is top notch. |

Hi Folks thanks for taking the time to post.....
It is the Halsinki version i am attempting Have dabbled in wooden period kit builds...but not managed to complete one as yet I have the Anatomy of the Yamato book for perhaps comparison and a bit of history on the subject, and links to the Kure Museum, but am building this for enjoyment, rather than being historicaly accurate Am busy browsing thru the forum (enjoying that too)learning quite a lot as i go Thanks |

Hi Folks thanks for contributing ...appreciated
@Oleg ...more luck than patience lol Added some strips of card for supporting the main decks Picked that up from browsing the forum. Thanks Also picked up from you guys about using PLASTER to aid in shaping the hull Am a bit wary "wet plaster on card" and "extra weight" on card But am thinking it obviously works or you guys would not do it So will give that a go next |
