MV Nella Dan, Wilhelmshaven Nr. 1044
Couldn't stand it - had to start another one.
So started cutting on this one a couple of days ago. It's a Danish built polar ship used for cargo and passengers, and operated by the Australian Antarctica mission. She met an inglorious fate….dashed on the rocks during a storm. These show the size of the paper, if someone isn’t familiar with Wilhelmshaven. Basically each page is equal to about two, 8 1/2 x 11in paper. The instructions are a bit thin on details, in some respects but now that I've done a few and one other Wilhelmshaven, they are a bit easier. Always best to cut clean, and dry fit 2-3 times before glue. At least I do my best at that. LOL Nella will be just under 12in, in length, i.e. 30.3cm. The superstructure will be interesting in the method that it’s built. It’s not in layers but pictures will be better.

update 1-28-2014
So here are a few more pics of Nella. At the moment, I'm not to happy that the instructions haven't called for install of the hull sides. Its still a few steps away. I can see based on the bow and stern decks why its so, but I still have two more deck areas to put, then the hull. We shall see. LOL
As I move along on this the 2nd Wilhelmshaven build, it seems that it requires cutting the part to the edge of the color portion of the part. I tend to cut the black outline in half, which leaves just a bit more paper. So far my half of a cut doesn't seem to effect the build however - so far.

And Nella Dan updates. After the inner bulkheads and main deck plates, come the hull sides. Based on past hull builds of mine, I was real good on the cutting (I think). I also made a tab that I used to attach the forward part of the two halfs together. Which makes you think I did the same at the aft end, where there is a gap to allow for the stern curve. Nope. Argh. Caused me to have a crease at that part of the splice.
As far as I know, I cut the parts as they were meant to be. However, the stern is not meeting. I'll have to use some red construction paper to at least mask the gap. Would have been nice if there was some extra length added to one of the hull sides. Either that or my cut and fit is off. Regardless, I am having fun putting it together. Its an interesting ship.

update
The Nella is coming along. Of late, been trying to get the Zuiho out of the yards, should be "complete" this weekend. In the meantime, here is Nella.
I have found that with kits from Wilhelmshaven, fit is very tight and exact. In a few places, because of how I eye my cuts, I through the fit off by a mm or better. Bummer but I try to get it to look good still. Still, I do like the Wilhelmshaven kits. Liken how Nella looks. Pretty cool model, too me.

Now that the weather has gone south, back at it.
Nella is just about complete. With Wilhelmshaven kits, there is no room for any deviation - tight tolerances. So I have some gaffs which show in the forward structure and stern. There are others but less noticable. Any suggestions on how to allow for the tolerances? I believe I'm cutting them as fine as I can but.... Still - it is fun building and it does look good.
