HMS Sheffield 1:200

Another build... a Christmas present

The HMS Sheffield was a cruiser of the RoyalNavy during the SecondWorldWar. At the outbreak of the war, she patrolled the Denmark Straits eventually operating in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic in 1940.
Perhaps her most notable engagement was her participation in the sinking of the Bismarck in 1941. Later (1943) she would participate in the sinking of the Scharnhorst and would be a support participant in an air attack on the Tirpitz (1944).
Sandwiched among these engagements were support missions for convoys and allied landing.

I haven't gotten too far along. I decided to build a waterline version. The skeleton needs some fine tuning; the deck work has been strengthened and cut to shape. A few bits were added.

You've made a good start on your model of this famous warship.

I had te pleasure of going on board the Shiny Sheffield when the ship made a port visit to Baltimore duirng the Coronation Year of 1953.

Don, that must have been a great experience give her storied career. I trust my skills are up to doing her justice.

Herky, sorry to dash your hopes. My interest lies in the ships of WWII. Perhaps some one else will tackle the more modern version.

I built this kit several years ago, it is a good model with well fitting parts. You shouldn't have too many surprises.

Paper fan...good to know. I think the surprises come from my inexperience.

Made some progress on the hull.

Added the deck to the hull skeleton. Then began to add the framework for the superstructure. Slow going as there are lots of parts that need to glued onto heavier stock

Don...appreciate your comment and support

Longbow...thanks as well....despite its deceptively small packaging, this model is approximately 34 inches long...and is going to take up much more room than I anticipated!!
