I've had good luck with Prismacolor water color pencils. They are soft enough to color the edges of even tiny parts without damage. No bleeding, smearing, flaking or other unpredictable/undesirable traits. Also good for touching up fold lines.

Thanks for posting the CSS Arkansas build! I will definitely get this model but will opt for the full hull. Looks great.

Willygoat put me onto the Prismacolor water color pencils and I agree with Sparky they work very good as a pencil or as a water color with a wet brush. Not to much water. I got the 36 pencil set and have had no problem matching colors. Prismacolor has a great web site with lots of options. http://www.prismacolor.com/home

Both the full hull & waterline model are included in the C.S.S. Arkansas model package.

I always like to see other people's work spaces. Yours is exceptionally ship shape.

I can imagine you working on a 19th century warship by the light of a whale oil lamp.

I have kind of put the C.S.S. Arkansas on the back burner for a bit and I've been building the C.S.S. Palmetto State model.

I love them C.S.S. vessels!
