Hello Benihana,

It's a strange form for a ship. Great work!

Now completed masts (just need to install) and walking beam. I did a few mods on the walking beam as I didn't really like the U-support that was in the kit for attatching the pistons at each end (at least I think their piston ends?). I scratch-built some heads and also I used lunch-bag-tie-wire painted black for the support rods > I thought these looked better than cutting our a piece with a large white section in the middle.

I'm indebited to who ever suggested using the lunch-bag-tie-wire on the forums as it is fantastic for these difficult little parts. I can remember who posted the suggestion but it was somewhere in the 'Ships and watercraft' section of this forum.

Now the boats, anchor and rigging to go!

Very interesting little model. I was wondering. How much of the detail is part of the kit and how much is kitbashing?

G'day Vermin King,

There are a few mods I've made to the model notably;
*changing the arrangement around the walking beam pistons and how they couple
*covering the gun rails at the front
* using tie bag wire for the elevation screw on the small guns
*also adding ropes and soon rigging but this would be a mod on most kits
But for most part the detail is present in the original kit with items such as the ladders and paddle wheels I've just opted to cut them out. At the end of the day it's a pretty amazing kit from Magnus Morck which has a lot of available detail if you choose this path. In hindsight this model is probably a little too advanced for my level of ability (it's my second paper build) but I have enjoyed playing, making mistakes, trying alternatives and learning. So far I've had a lot of enjoyment from this build and I'm really looking forward to playing with the rigging.

Wow, I've just look at previous build and I realised its been a month since I've done anything.......too much work and baby daughter (actually just too much work as Baby Daughter is great! <sleep not withstanding>).

Finally had some time today and got some rigging done on the funnel. Looking at the one photo of the Coeur I've concluded that the funnel and masts appear to have three main ropes at 120degrees (rather than four) securing them, hence this is what I'm going with. Hopefully can get on a roll now and finish the build.

Almost forgot the rope is pva coated cottom thread. It was difficult getting the right length but looks OK in the end.

cheers,

Benihana
