You are welcome and thanks for looking in. The sails on this small boat are made from tissue paper not suitable for water immersion. I tried to spray it with a clear sealant but the sail became semi transparent, opaque.

Batteau

The build continues. I bough a desk top and I am using a 20inch monitor. The graphics are outstanding. For almost all of my builds, I have been using a 8 year old laptop and a small notebook about 5 years old. I broke down and said that I need something better. This high definition screen makes all the models, mine and everyone else's pop out. I do not need to strain my vision anymore.

The side planking is attached and this model is definitely in the category of I can't believe that is paper mode. So far, the only wood or other medium, is to the rub bar/gunwale, mast, cannons and some metal fittings. Enjoy and I will be back with more stuff.

Thanks for looking in and I appreciate your comment. I am glad that you are enjoying the build thread.

The base for the oar locks are made from heavily laminated cardstock. Two holes will be drilled to accommodate the oar locks. I started to sand down a dowel to the small side to fit the the drilled holes but I found out that the ends of the incense sticks are about the size needed and no need to sand down the dowels. the cleats centers are laminated but not that thick. The outside base of the cleats are laminated and attached at both sides. The cleat is sandwiched and clamped down to make the lamination tighter. With the jewelry pliers, made some ring attachments for the rope anchor/tie downs. See you all soon with more updates, until then, enjoy.

As always enjoy following your builds. And yes getting a newer, bigger screen is wonderful. After years of working on an old 13" CRT it finally gave up last year and I upgraded to a 25" flat screen--oh my Lord, I can see!

Yes, the screen lets me understand now how some comment about my work being great are being made. The HD screen really makes the work pop out but also tiny mistakes and errors here and there. Thanks for the comment and for looking in.

Thanks for your comment, I do my thread this way, to show that the models are really made of paper or the majority of it is.

Now for some more detail updates for the batteau. The boom/spar is supposed to have two holes drilled in the center. The problem with these holes, is that they weakened the boom and it broke at one of these junctures. I assumed, that if the sailor came up with this problem, he would have used a field expedient measure and splinted the parts together. Instead of making another boom/spar for the sail, I did just that, Splinted the boom/spar and gave it a used look in the process. Accidents do happen and you have to adjust for them. The paper tissue sails do have that linen look to it and is not thick like a cotton cloth like a handkerchief or canvas scrap. The lanyard for the flagstaff, is operational and will lower and raise the flag. Enjoy and see you all soon with more update details

Your model is coming along very nice.
In the past I built some wooden model of boats and ships and i tried always to reproduce the original way of build the hulls.
Last week i went to Genova at the Galata sea museum.
Here I have seen many models but someone reminded me of this thread and your model.
Here some picture

And last but not less the wonderfull reproduction of an ancient Genoese galley.

My compliments for the very clear explanations embedded in the pictures: a true self-explaining tutorial!

Best, Nando
