Great collection!
This was why I built all 4 at once. Combining the builds into a group I believe saved me at least 2.5 yrs, 1/2 total. It allowed me to serial build the hulls, all the guns, etc reducing the "how to do this" que time. It also helped to keep me fresh, I would go from one ship to the next until done.

I am going to try this next fall with a group of cruisers, multi-national this time.

Hi, outstanding builds! Thanks for the motivation! I noticed your next build will (possibly) be the USS ERIE, will that be PG-50?
Keep it up, you are an inspiration to us all!
Mike

PG-50. Interesting post on google about the damage she received when torpedoed.

You see the torpedo hole in the stern, the blown out damage under the foremost mount, the sunken stern mount, etc.

I have always thought that Erie, Charleston, and their Coast Guard "Treasury" class relatives were really good-looking ships.

Extraordinary! Will you put them on public display somewhere--a library, a museum, an art gallery?

Now you've got me thinking, Paperfan. I learned so much building the Bismarck and I want to build more ships. I could try two at once. I'd have to clear my workbench of everything not connected to the two ships, just to keep them from getting mixed up, but it's an intriguing idea. But which two? And, good grief, what am I talking myself into?

To be honest, I keep 'em all in a large basement living room. I do plan eventually to use the models as a way to travel in retirement (not so far away anymore I am afraid). I plan to sell them off during retirement and delivering them to the buyers. A random way of seeing the country so to speak. Those I don't sell or that I am really proud of (I know pride is a mortal sin) I will try to find museums to donate to. These too will be delivered. I will bring my wife, the model and my clubs. Visit people we don't know but who have interest in something I did, travel with the misses and play lots of golf at unique courses. I can't think of a better way to enjoy the golden years, here's hoping I keep my health to do so.

I hope to visit non-descript places I would never otherwise dream of visiting all the while hitting the tourist traps en-rout or back.

Joe

Sounds good. When you get around to it, consider the Wisconsin Maritime Museum at Manitowoc and the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. In the meantime, how about your local public library? My GPM Bismarck is on display there and it's been very popular.

Your work deserves to be seen by a much wider audience.

I am so impressed with these models that I have been showing pictures of them around my school. I teach history in high school and am starting a model building club next year, including paper models. My students are as impressed as I!
