My annual (or thereabouts) request....

I think I ask this every couple of years or so, and I've scoured the internet to no avail, so here goes (again):

Is anyone aware of any card models of:

-- DSV Alvin;

-- DSV NR-1;

-- Bathyscaphe Trieste

Of course if anyone designed any of these, I'd be interested....

Can't help directly, but if you have a need to ask this "yearly".... why not attempt to create a model yourself? Should be an interesting venture.... great for a forum report on it as well I suppose. I am sure there are more than enough people around here who would be willing to give some advice on it.

Is this the Alvin you're looking for?

No luck with the other ones though but there are more at papercraftsqure - some Shinkais, Mir and others too.

That's the Alvin, but I was looking for something more accurate and detailed.

As far as designing them myself, I have no CAD skills and don't have the spare time to learn any. Would love to be able to, but it just isn't (excuse the pun) in the cards.

Did a search for the three of them and came up empty handed. Not much on the NR-1 seems it is still classified? Did find free 3d models of the other two.

The model for the Elvin is very detailed (even has cutaways showing the interior), so would require a lot of work to convert to paper model. What size model where you hoping for this DSV?

The Trieste model on the other hand was not to bad. The textures are not that detailed and also not sure how accurate to the original the model is. But I went ahead to see if could could make a paper model from a 3d model. (Never tried before). The result is the attached pics. (Please mind the build as it was a rush job just to see if the bits would all fit together.) Some pieces will need some cleanup eg tabs to be moved. Please let me know if you think I should bother to complete this model. If so, I will submit it to the forum for downloading.

Tilly, your "quick" design (and build) looks better than a lot of other things I've seen. Great work!

And yeah, if you complete it, I'd love to build it.

I'm always amazed at the talent here....

I would add that I'd try my hand at the Shinkai 6500 on the Paper Replika website, but for whatever reason, my computer won't download it.

Hi Tilly,
very nice. I never built a submarine so far, but your Trieste I would try at once.

Greetings
Dieter
