IJN Zuikaku 1:200 - GPM

Well, it's time to start on this beast. I figure I'll be busy for at least 6 to 8 months now

The kit doesn't seem to be quite up to Isuzu's standards, but I've seen it built before to a high standard, so I'm hoping I can come up with something I like. It will be huge: 127 cm or about 50 inches long. There are 33 aircraft to go with it and a bunch of 2mm laminations - I'm going to try balsa.

It's from 1999 and appears to be computer & hand drawn? The hull coloring is very strange, but maybe it will look good once it's on the frames. There seem to be shadows added.

The kit comes with 11 A3 pages of formers, 20 A3 pages of cardstock parts and an A4 sheet of colors.

Now to figure out where to start I think I need some more spray glue!

Well, you really stepped in it now! I'm pretty sure you'll be able to pull it off, though.

Good luck!

Considering your eye for beauty that you demonstrate in selecting fascinating ukiyoe I'm absolutely sure you'll turn this kit into a great stuff.

Go Jim Go!

Oh yeah, this is gonna be a goodie. Just keep thinking to yourself, "big is good".

While I would have liked seeing you work over the Fuso myself, this one is also on my list of things I would like to build someday.

Thanks for the good wishes! Jay, I think Fuso will probably be the next big project.

Also, after translating as best I could the instructions, it looks like it needs to be laminated to 1mm stock. The slots are strange, they vary between 1mm and 2mm with no real standard? Was thinking about that while falling asleep last night - have to go to Michaels at lunch today and pick up more spray glue.

Watch out for the lamination thicknesses. I seem to recall that some of the carrier models I have used 2mm for the base and center "spine" and 1mm for the bulkheads. I have noticed that on some of the battleship models also. I'm sure you'll get it all sorted out.

Okay Jim. This one's a monster. 50 inches! What is the width of the flight deck?
As you can see, you have a real crowd following this one. I have been anxious to watch this vintage Japanese aircraft carrier take shape in your shipyard.
