Lightship Ambrose - Digital Navy 1:250 scale

Hello to All,

As an admirer of lightships, I have been aware of this gem from Roman Deytna’s Digital Navy for a long time. It is popular among shipbuilders and has been built by many. Those of you familiar with Roman’s work and his website know this was issued as a waterline model.

I have always wondered what it would look like with a full hull, so I decided to build it that way. Because this ship is still floating today as a museum piece, there are many excellent highly detailed images available of it on the internet. So it was not difficult to design the lower hull. With all those great pictures, I was able to add many details to my rendition that are not included in the kit.

Here are images showing the project in various stages of construction.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for sharing your build of this lovely little kit. Did you punch out the port-holes in the side?

All the best and happy modelling

Bernie

This is a very welcome project, Mike!

I have had this lightship downloaded and printed out for years, but never tried to build it. Your step-by-step illustrations are excellent and, naturally given your ship model building skill and experience, the finished model is indeed a gem.

Turned out very nice. Your detail additions and full hull conversion looks great.

Beautiful build, Mike! Love to see it with the full hull - always preferred full hull vs. waterline. Thanks for sharing!
