CSS Palmetto State 1:250
G'day Everyone,
After finishing the Coeur I looked around and decided on another ACW ship for my next build. I chose C. T. Ertz's CSS Palmetto State not only as it looks like a really nice model but because my wife is from North Carolina so the South Carolina reference will get a rise out of her (as apparently it's better on top! ). I printed today and started laminating the inner structure (ship three is underway!). To start off I've added a few historical drawings below to see what the end result will hopefully look like. A good start!
I enjoy ACW ships built on the forum! Sincerely, Joe

Oh cool! I hope the model can handle you! Your skills are great and this was one of my early try at design! I am happy to see you do this one!

I was looking over some pictures of my Coeur attempt. About the fourth ship model I built I think. Well, lets just say I will not be posting those pictures next to your build! My build was a bit, well, crude. I hope that you will find the Palmetto State at least as much fun as the Coeur!

CT you are too kind (at this point I'm trying to find a blushing smilie but to no avail!). I've been doing a lot of cutting, laminating and thinking and I've come to the conclusion that this model is indeed very cool. The ability to build a removable casement has caught my attention and I'm going to try and achieve this (or at least attempt) with a couple of twists so that detail inside can be seen.
Here are the first pics of the cutting, much more to come. |

Progress has been slow but getting there. I'm trying to build with a removable casement so it can be lift off to see the detail inside. The model parts fit very well but the challenge is getting the casement to sit cleanly on the deck > if it was built to be closed it would be really easy but a bit harder as I want to try and remove > for this I made a jig which can be seen in the third photo....so far so good. I've also covered the inside of the casement so if it lifted off it doesn't seem naked, the start of this is in the second photo.
Guns and inside fittings also built (last three photos). Benihana |

Exceptional work. The guns are amazing in such a small scale.

The hull is precise, delicate work. The guns are also very beautiful!
