A little break - Russian Gunboat BK-2

Hello to all paper modelers !!!

Looking for a little break from the building of Imperator Nikolai battleship, I took back a kit I bought a long time ago and still not touched.

The model is of the little russian river gunboat BK-2 from a Betexa 1:35 paper kit.

The target was to built a reasonable model of this guboat, to gift a friends who loves a lot russian traditions, history and army.

The "mission impossible" as to build such model in a couple of days (during last week) because last saturday was his birthday...

Well.. I think that the mission has been done with a good success.
Looking at the whole model in the kit, were missed the removable canopy and the lifeline on top of armoured casamate.

I made a mistake in position the propeller perhaps too close to rudder and giving a wrong curvature on the stern (unfortunately Betexa instructions and diagrams were not too much clear for this area...)

From the "good side", instead, i tried to give a rusty and weathered appearance to the mode.. I hope that you'll like.

My friend was really happy and amazed to have such little gift that now is in a place of honour in the middle of home bookshelf !!!

Here few pics of this little model, just before to put the russian flag on the jack flagpole, in the stern.

Have a nice days and happy modeling !!!

Write you soon for Imperator Nikolai update and a couple of other projects.

Ciao

Jp

Nice work JP.
It is not a complex project, but it has good detail with the rivets and rust.

many thanks

Hangman,
Mike,
Mauther

It was a full "2-days" of pleasure and stress at the same time..but it gave me a lot of fun !!

Mike, you're totally right... the BK-2 is not a complex model, but in it's simplicity it was a bit tricky, in particular in understanding the instructions. (and I was not able to make it at the best .... so this was the reason of the mistakes in the model)

But... looking at the complexity... this following pic is of one of past models I have built, time ago.... is a "bit" more complex !! :-) :-)

For friends that do not know which type of ship is....
It's a 1:250 scale model of the Russian Imperial steam yacht Livadia, launched on 1880, build from a Walden Models paper kit.

The lower hull was circular in shaping, and above a more "traditional" hull... one of the most unusual ship I ever seen before..

The ship, indeed, was thought as a "floating palace" for Czars' family.

OK... Now it's time to come back to Imperator Nikolai model...... thinking also at the next one..

Have a nice day and write you soon.

Ciao

Hello JP:
It looks like you did a terrific job with Oliver Weiss' (Walden Models) yacht Livadia.
Certainly not an easy project. It is one of the most unusual ships one will ever see.
Oliver has an excellent collection of very interesting vessels at his site.
