Thanks so much for the info Jim. I like the look of her. That small green freighter is a very attractive piece of work as well! Mike |

Very nice models, Jim! Now, pack them up and bring them out to Newport Harbor in April for the Western Ship Model Conference & Exhibit!

Good jobs, Jim! Considering these were my first efforts and only the second model I ever designed, you outdid yourself.
Except for the ladder on the funnel one could be Lavoisier back from a tour in French IndoChina and the other Galilee cruising the Mediterranée. You just need a background of the port at Nice (Villefranche) and it would look perfect. Of course, if you had Iéna and Masséna in the scene it would be even better! [Ahem] Thanks for working through these and showing such beautiful results. Carl |

Beautiful workmanship. Have to admit, hope I can do 1/2 the job you have done. I have read this thread until I have memorized it, and still go back and look @. For some reason, I just can't get the juices to flow to build mine beyond the frame?

Thank you so much for your compliments! Really appreciate it and I am extremely honored!
During the weekend I finished the decoration on the starboard gallery, I also improved a few details on the stern (for example, the middle piece of the roof under the great sculptural group). Here are some pictures from the process of forming two figures that will be placed on the roof above the gallery. I still use modeling clay/sculpey. Details on sculptures have deeper engraving for the elimination of embedding during painting by golden leaf/color . After baking the scupltures are improved and cleaned by grinding, fine - emery paper is suitable.

Redhorse, thanks for a great thread. Reading it was truly educational, fun, and intriguing. I can definitely relate with the working through illness part. You collection of ships are wonderful. You have done Carl's work justice and the potential of his ship designs are realized, through your expertise.

Thanks for all the compliments on these everyone. Now I've got to decide which of Carl's I need to buy next...
Doris, thank you very much for explaining how you do your figures. I really enjoy sculpting miniatures, so I'm always curious how other people do it. Doing them on a paper backing is something I've never seen, but it makes sense and obviously works well for relief figures.
