One last tid bit before I sign off until Friday, I am now starting to cut out the Helo Pad/Hanger cabin sides. As you can see, there are a number of small items and several areas that will get cut out and added to the rear of the piece after assembly. This is the last thing before moving to step 3 which will be adding the Helo Pad/deck...........moving along and having fun.

Rick

PS: Much study of this assembly to get all the details correct.

What herky and others who have built the HMV kits is asking about the option details is you have the ability to mod certain areas with additional 3D effect parts. Thats sounds cool until you see the size of some of the parts. I am @ adding lower sides to the aft section of the helicopter hanger deck......this part alone w/detail parts is made up of 88 parts.........
As you can see and I will attest too, do not be in a hurry building one of these. But if one takes the time to cut out and assemble the details, the kit comes alive.

Well after a few hours work, I have all the fiddle bits cut out......if I did not have the Japanese Hole Punch, some of this would be alot harder.
This has to be one the best tools I have ever bought f/Card Modeling. As you can see, this is just one side of the structure, I still have the other side too do. As stated, do not be in a rush to build one of these if adding the small details, but the work is well worth it. I also suggest you study the plans and instructions closely, some areas require extra attention that you do not see till several steps later, so study, study, study.

PS: those Life Rings are a bear, w/o a hole punch, those would not be added. I colored the 1st one red, the others I believe I will just leave as is, looks better that way.
All the pieces you see on the white card are the detail parts one must cut out to give the 3D effect, and this is just a small portion of such parts! The small micro knife has been handy in this task as well as my Tajima knife.

Thats what i mean.at least they give you option of single sheet and not layering the smaller pieces on.That demo shows why im considering doing it at larger size.Without hijacking your thread i will mention if anyone is into this class of ship but likes a larger scale there is a gpm model of same ship out there.for us with less than nimble fingers and non perfect eyesight.

Looking good! Some mighty small parts there. I also have this one in my stash to do someday. Since HMV have done this one I keep hoping they will grace us with a Spruance class since the hull is the same. Not as if I really need anymore kits to add to the stash though.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Cheers, Corbin
