The clamp is just a temporary thing for the pic...so the Y10 will fit on the deck BEFORE the Y12 ...from the instructions drawing it looked like a conning tower top! thank you all for your help.

Jagolden01, where does this thickness com from? I have the part, does it have any thickness-er? or did you cut it from thick board, your conning tower looks great.

On my first attempt at building this, I enlarged it to 1/32 so I was using heavier stock.

Kooklik U boat

I want to thank all of you who made the issue much clearer now, the sub is on its way being put together decently. any feedback on the joining strip length discrepancies? I am cutting the printed card very carefully! (I am glad I did not have to cut the frames)

I think you are talking about the edge strips
that go onto each hull former?
They create a wider strip to attach the outer skins to.
(and they help fill any gaps from behind)

These strips do not go all the way around the formers.
They are not needed at the top (deck).

I can't remember if they were all accurate length, but knowing Kooklik's
accuracy, I'd be surprised if they weren't.
But, they are only paper strips and can be modified.
If you use the wrong one in the wrong place, its easy enough to make a replacement.

Here are all the pics I uploaded when building the Uboat.
Not sure if they are in any sort of order (it was a long time ago)
but maybe some will help.

Kooklik U Boat

Hello I am back again with some questions (not related to the building of the sub!) I am progressing with the conning tower, and realized that it was not a regular VIIC one, it had the extended "Wintergarten" AA decks, which makes it a VIIF. I want to add Mediterranean camo on the sub and I found the emblem (I know that it belonged to the 29th flotilla) I came up with the info in the attached pics. Can you elaborate on that subject? was the emblem on the port side only or on both..did it have a city coat of arms also..etc. Thank you

If you had asked a question about the Centurion Tank or maybe Little Willie...
or even a PT Boat!...

I know when I did the repaints of Kooklik's Uboat...
I remember seeing the conning tower artworks always on both sides.
Thats how I did my artwork.

But this is not really a regulation thing.
There were probably all kinds of variations, even within "packs".

A sub doesn't have a "driver's side", like an airplane.
You would want things visible from both sides.
