IJN Landing ship SBT (WMC Models 2013/04 nr 19)
Hi all,
I am starting a new build. I finished Isuzu (I am waiting for a sunny day to make a good photos of her). For my next project I have chosen SBT landing ship from WMC Models. First the cover: For the model build I will use laser cut frames, laser cut parts, photo-etched parts (from other IJN models), engraved decks, and metal cannons. The model will be painted. First, I assembled the frames. In the meantime, I have made the ramp for deploying tanks. I have add 84 parts to the original one part from the kit. Next step was painting the ramp and finishing the frames. Last step was making the "underskin". See you in the next update! Regards, Kuba |

Excellent!
I have this kit, but it is far beyond my own capabilities, so I am glad to see that you are building it. You have the skill and experience to make a good job of it. The hull looks very precise so far. Don |

Thank you Don.
The model has many design mistakes. For those who would like to build it without painting it would be very difficult and frustrating. But I like challenges Kuba |

What I can see of the landing ramp looks to be an excellent job.

Hello,
Here are the hull update. Not painted yet as many parts still left. I have made the different bottom than in the model. I used engraved deck dedicated for this model. Now, I will make small parts remaining on the deck (but not the equipment). After that I will paint the hull and make the update. See you then, Kuba |

Looks great. Believe this is the first WMC kit that I've seen getting built. How are their kits?

Hi Greg,
I do not know about rest of their models so I cannot speak for them all but this model is not well fit in many examples. This is like someone gave it for printing when the project had not been entirely finished yet. (for example: the deck in the middle section of the ship has no textures - it is white; some parts are to short, some to long; few parts have no number on them and they are not shown in any drawing). There are more examples. It is not a problem for me as I am painting the model but for those who do not paint it would be very difficult to finish it. Kuba |

I am sorry to hear about the problems, since I am very interested in amphibious ships and in the pre-1945 Japanese Navy. I have the model and, although it is beyond my current capability to build, I still hoped to try it some day.
Nonetheless, in your hands it is taking shape very well. I have no doubt that you will produce an excellent model in the end, and I look forward to seeing how you deal with the shortcomings in the kit. Don |

Me gusta como lo llevas, a pesar de los fallos del diseño. Los barcos japoneses me encantan, así que te sigo.
I like how you take it, despite the failures of design. I love the Japanese vessels, so I follow you.

Hi,
A small update today. Recently, I has been working on small parts on the deck which I have to make before painting. In the middle section of the ship a lot of parts were missing in the kit. They were shown on the drawings though. I have indicated them in the photos (with a comment in Polish). This is how it looks today. In the meantime I was working to make the SBT look more interesting. In the model there are 4 Ka Mi tanks. I decided to make 2 Type 95 Ha Go Tanks, 1 Ka Mi Tank (new design - in my opinion this from the kit is too simple) and 1 type 94 six-wheeled Japanese truck. I have designed Ha Go Tanks already. Now I am designing the truck. All in 1:200 scale. This is Ha Go will look. I have already made a test build of this tank. Luckily, everything fits See you in the next update, Kuba Marry Christmas to you all!!!!!! |
