Good afternoon, my friends. With the AA guns installed, the armament for the Scharnhorst is complete. This week was very productive for this model. I was able to build the cranes and the launches.
The cranes (5 in total) were built with a double paper layer, in order to gain some stiffness. They are of two different types. The big ones were put in the mid-ship section (one each side) and the small ones are located in the main superstructure and at the stern. I used dark gray cotton thread to make the steel cables. As for the launches, they are 7 in total, of two different types. The hulls were a bit tricky to shape and a lot of time was spent on the windshields, but I'm happy with the outcome. The launches have some nice details such as wooden benches. I feel the deck is getting a little a cramped...haha. Anyway, some pictures for you. |

Hello there my friends,
Its carnival time here in Brazil. This means that, while the entire country is immersed in some kind of unrestricted orgy, i got plenty of holiday time to work on my ships. So i finished the Scharnhorst, yes, finally! The final steps were the life boats and both arad 196 seaplanes. Shaping the little hulls of the life boats wasn't easy, but I'm quite satisfied with results. With those five life boats, we have a total of 12 small vessels on board. Unfortunatelly, they weren't of much use on the aftermath of the battle of Cape North. After engaging the battleship HMS Duke of York and her escorts, the Scharnhorst sank, with the loss of 1932 souls. The arad 196 were the most complicated parts of the ship. Their small parts forced me to reprint them on a thinner paper. They are quite detailed, with a spinner on the nose, profiled wings, floating pads structs and rear machinegun. I brought my digital camera for a photo shoot. Pretty soon I will post more HD pictures. Here are a few I took with the cellphone. |

Hello again! Here I come with the high quality pictures. I'll apreciate if you could give me any tips on how to pass a few threads between those masts withou tearing them apart.

And more...
The Graf Spee was my first ship. It is quite simple, while compared to the new one. Both on 1:400 scale. |

I put a small weight at the end of a thread and hang it over the border of the table. Then, I embed it with glue.
When dry, the thread is harder like wire and easy to cut. I just put some of it in my 1/700 Bismarck's cranes.
