DKM Scharnhorst 1:400

Good evening gentlemen,

I'm nearly finished with a 1:400 Scharnhorst (Prudenziatti's).

Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of the build from the beginning. So, my post will start with an already advanced building stage. The next one, I will photograph from the very beginning, promise!

I took a few pictures with cellphone camera, so the quality isn't that great. When I finish, I will use a better camera.

The first picture I'm showing is the main guns attachment. The turrets are not glued, they are on the deck for fitting purposes.

Thumbs up Great job

Beautiful and clean work on this remarkable Battleship. Keep up the good work. Not a bad picture from a mobile phone, but like you say...will be better with a proper camera. I made the Tirpitz, you might like to see that:

Hey peter! Thanks for stopping by. Your tirpitz looks incredible. These 1:400 scale models can drive you nuts with all the small parts. I built one tirpitz myself, but it was a plastic model from lindberg.

I can assure yours looks much more detailed.

Thanks for the compliment Couldn't build them that small anymore, although with magnifiers possibly. I have a skin condition now that prevents me from handling paper/card so i am at a disadvantage which makes me very sad. Your model is fantastic, the better the kit the better the outcome.

You think 1/400 is small, try my Scharnhorst 1/700 scale! :-)

Now, The ship looks great. Wich camouflage are you using? Are you using only paper or another materials too?

Hello draco,

1:700 wow...i imagine the size of the seaplane on that one.

As for the camouflage, there isn't one. The ship is basically navy gray (different tones here and there). Except for the hull under the waterline, decks, launches and seaplanes, that are in different colours.

As for the materials, I printed the entire ship on a 160g paper, and thats it, no fancy stuff. The seaplanes are being build on a thinner 90g paper and I used sewing thread for the cranes cables.

I hope that answers it.

Regards!

After the installation of the main guns, i turned to the 105 mm flak guns. They are a bit small and tricky to fold (specially the barrels).

Three on the port side, another three on the starboard side and one on the stern.

I got a few more pictures, so you guys can see.

Lovely work my friend. Very clean too. You are very keen on the build, it shows delightfully. I am enjoying this ! I wish you had taken more pictures of all the stages of your build, these can be used by others who may wish to build the model for guidance. A real beauty in the making

Hello Peter. Thank you for your kind comments!

I really regret no having this photographed from the start. I guess I was a bit unsure of of the outcome.

I'm doing this for my new models though, like the titanic.

Regards

Hello my friends,

I took some time to work a little on my ships this weekend. The Scharnhorst gained a little bit more AA power with half dozen 20 mm double cannons.

I have a couple of pictures here showing the 105 mm flak guns already installed and the newly made cannons.

The ruler, in centimeters, for scale.
