I saw this ship as it was going through the Panama Canal (Pacific to Caribbean) on its last in-service voyage. I was a crew member on the USS Observation Island (EAG-154 in those days) transiting the Canal to the Pacific for missile testing near Johnston Island.

The Savannah was in pretty fine shape, all gleaming white, with a few passengers lounging by the small swimming pool. Seems like there was a plastic model (Revell?) back in the 60s-70s.

Someone not Revell had a motorized one ...

So far have found this reference to Revell's kit and its history, https://www.scalemates.com/kits/reve...annah--103579#

Ah! There's the motorized one!

Google just found this 1990s photo of it in drydock, with an interesting navy grey cargo ship in adjacent drydock.
Quote:
"NS SAVANNAH in drydock at Sparrows Point Shipyard, Maryland, 1994 / Launched 1959, In service from 1962 to 1972 / First of only four nuclear-powered cargo ships ever built. [1600×1082]"
https://www.reddit.com/r/drydockporn...oint_shipyard/

A little more playing in Google from what was said in Reddit comments found this about what the grey one was initially said to be,
Quote:
MV Cape W Ships
Two Cape W RO/RO-class ships served with the Army Preposition Afloat [APA] program are the Cape Washington and Cape Wrath. These ships have a container capacity of 1,203 and one twin-boom shipboard crane with a capacity of 5 tons for self-unloading of vehicles. They also have a fixed vehicle ramp on the starboard/stern quarter and a vehicle ramp on the starboard side, amidships. The side ramp allows RO/RO operations to starboard, and the stern ramp allows RO/RO operations to the starboard side or aft only. Overall, these ships can carry 190,000 square feet of cargo.

On board NS Savannah is a, I believe , a builders model of SAVANNAH, witch its cut open at the engineering and reactor room. Would be nice to have more Hi-Resolution close up photographs of the model, until now I only have seen one photograph of this model !
By the way, the above address, the hnsa.org site, I already discovered, but many thanks for mentioning !!
