Atlantic Jamaican

A project started at the end of last year. Like my other models this one has been enlarged to 1:148 scale for a British N gauge railway. This makes a containership of about 2 feet in length. The design of this one is fairly simple so I plan to add a bit more detail later.

The hull plates are in several sections so I have started at the stern with the superstructure. Images are so far - lots of detail still to add. The bow is less advanced at the moment.

The ramp is hinged so that the model can be used in situ.

Your own design or did this start out as the KEL kit?

moving to the bow. This is where there seem to be a few issues with this kit.
Firstly the name is spelt incorrectly here and different to the name on the stern. Easily rectified as I have removed it when I enlarged the plans. The other issues are more of a challenge. The curve of the sides is such that the pieces supplied to form the bow don't fit properly and they seen too high above the deck of the ship at the front. See images where I have just very roughly tacked the (test) pieces of the bows in place.

I have limited experience of ship kits but is it usual to have the sides in so many pieces?

any experience of this kit greatly received.

Your build is coming along nicely.

I have the KEL (Kartonowa Flota) original in my to-do pile, so will watch your build with interest.

I have finally managed to get the bows to look fairly good. As mentioned in my last post these are in separate pieces and don't appear to easily fit together. A bit of trial and error and I don't think it looks too bad.

It's a nice looking ship and the effort on the bows must have paid off...

That panned out very nicely.

Scalescenes do a nice little freighter suitable for a railway layout.

Yes I like the scalescenes model but we wanted a container ship and the scalescenes one is a bit small. I have done a number of their building models. They are well designed, go together well and look great on the railway.
