Shipyard's Endeavor
Been a while since I posted... so this one starts in the middle
After building the hull I decided I would have to start adding stuff at the bow and work back. I have some walnut I decided to use for masts and spars For "rope" i have cords I've made by twisting copper wire of different sizes, I have a few thin ones left over. So I used those to make some coils for the forward bit's belaying pins. I used a cardboard jig to wrap them, then bent them over and painted them Then I bent them til they sat ok on the pins. Then I added a little dab of glue . I'm doing it this way because I decided at 1/96 there was going to be no way to do the coils round the pins when I'm actually putting in the running rigging. I'll go back and post some pictures of building the hull later. |

more work
more work on the bow,
the riding bits, with bamboo belaying pins instead of drilling all the way thru I made the pins in 2 parts and glued top and bottom for each pin separately on my finger is one of the timberheads, cut from walnut, i leave a little tab at the bottom to glue into the rail for strength, as they will receive a lot of the riggin then a couple of curved booms that i carved out of walnut.. this was as much curve as I could get out of my widest stock last one of the timber heads glued in place |

a few more details
rings from copper wire details mostly carved from walnut the planking pattern on the hull mistake to finish it white... the Endeavor's bottom had "brown stuff" punching the holes for the timber heads in the railing |

hull work
some pictures of working on the hull,
the bottom of the hull was double planked to protect against boring worms, so it ends up more or less level with the gunwale mounting the curved hull under the transom i cut out all the hatches and will mount them open to give a sense of "depth" you can see the untrimmed "planks" on the bottom i measured the hull off in equal sections them cut the planks to fit.. it did not work perfectly |

Railings
Not being a warship, she does not have such massive sides.
The posts are bamboo, the rails heavy card I ended up having to redo a couple of the posts when they came out to short, which I saw when I laid the rails on them. |

the way back machine
looking back at the start
trying out a color for the decks you always need to do something to maintain the shape between the formers here i tried using some bakeable clay this model has several internal decks although you cannot see them when it is finished |

more on the hull
more work on the hull
covering the hull as it turned out, i should have used thicker stock for these pieces for the bow pieces i had to cut some of them down so they would fit the curves |

more on the hull
working on the hull
the internal hatches... not really trying for a lot of detail on these decks, as they will only be partially visible on some of the pieces i had to add card spacers to give me something to glue the hull coverings to |
