By the way: I cut out all the windows and attached smoky foil behind. Looks nice and comes close to the original. What I did with the balcony cabins in the middle hull section I will tell later. The colorless top deck is just a protective cover as the original floor is extremely senitive to damages. In case a part with glue drops on the floor accidently nothing will happen.
whats the overall length of this ship?the model i mean

the protective dock I built around the ship measures 147 cm, so minus c. 4 cm at each end amounds to c. 139 cm at strength deck level....First the price put me off a bit. But all my 25 liners are in 250 scale so I wanted to stay within this scale. And I am glad I did so as it is a wonderful detailed model. I includes some major modifications compared to the kit: a) extended boatdeck fore. The original sealed it off oddly; b) balcony cabins within the midhull section ;c) working deck below the deck with children´s pool. This was a new construction as the kit just offered printed gear openings; d) sports areas with better nets on deck 13; e) the complete Pavillion Pool under the magrodome with fittings and furniture; f) openings and fittings for gas turbines on deck 12. Here the kit cheated a bit as it pretended to be a half-deck with windows. One papermodeler just added foil (oops!), the other included the real fittings behind the top section but ignored the lower part (why?)...more to come

pic 6 shows the boat deck in December; the glass protection is under construction, the plating is stilll missing. I constructed the shell balconies as a 30-unit-bloc behind it before I attached the part. I cannot remember how many units I build in all. At the moment I cannot count them either as the ship rests in the dock. It has an open end to remove it (not like the one for the "Great Britain" ) but as the lower part is finished with anchors and stuff I will float my baby only when all is finished.
pic 7 and 8 show the aft section with the balconies, pic 9 the front , pic 10 the bridge and Observation Deck. I included a lot more details here than my fellow builders to come closer to the original. Besides, this deck looks more inviting.
As to "blowing models up": I like the details. Sometimes it really works as with Batory by Maly Modelarz. Mostly I had the other problem, namely reducing the scale from 200 to 250: Great Eastern/ Schreiber, Olympic/ Fly (my masterpice from Titanic model and a lot of research), Europa 1981/ Schreiber (with 30 year-old-parts from my childhood attempt to build Wilhelmshavener Europa) - I would like to see some of the liners the others have built....send some pics
my models are: United States/ Wilhelmshavener (built by me in 1984), Titanic/ Revell (1985), Bremen 1959 (1986-89), Lusitania (1990). Then there was a 17-year-gap. The next builts: Batory, Berlin, Feldmarschall, Präsident, Europa 1981, Hanseatic, Galaxy, Great Eastern, Olympic, Bremen 1929, Monte Rosa, Oranje, Johann van Oldenbarnevelt, Potsdam, Stockholm 1948, Rotterdam, Berlin 1955, Israel, Europa 1966, Olympia, Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, Augusta Victoria - my boyfriend sometimes is a bit jealous that I spend so much time in my study....

Too bad you live in New Zealand: SS Rotterdam is moored in Rotterdam as a Museum and Hotel. I spent a night there in February. If you Need some detailed pics from outer decks, I can provide them.
