For the prospective builders: here is the series to improve the original kit: on the forpeak there is a structure that is hollow to let the water drain, the observation deck under the bridge needs some details, the elevator should be squared, not round, there is a throughfare from the boat deck to the circuit in the front part (that is a dull wall in the original kit), the middle dome structure on deck 13 contains lavatories (but unequal in number Sb / Pt)...

the sports deck with the tennis/ basketball field is rectangular to the top. The two wing extensions of the pilot deck are far more aft than in the kit as not to interfere with the nets. All the former builders cut the nets in half halfway up to squeeze the nets into the corner. That is nonsense. The Lookout is maybe the biggest flaw in the kit: the deck is far to high so that the space to the windshield is only 3-4 mm. Lower the deck so that a normal height of at least 10 mm is achieved. Make sure to plan the Pavillion Pool walls carefully. The walls are far too short in height and the fore section next to the stairs contain two windows! The entire roof construction must be changed as the front part is double-slanted. The gas turbine exhaust shields are not attached to the structure. There is a metal cover inside that can be slided sideways for protection. Queen Mary 2 1:250-november-2015-013.jpg

The working areas of the gas turbines must be construced anew as the kit does not show them at all. There are two storeys protected with railings, at the back there are louvers. There are very few pics of that area, but check the Revell Model pics if necessary. They give a good idea of many areas not included in the kit. The top of the turbine construction has some vent openings plus the IMO number. The Crew deck area facing front is also a bit different. My greatest worries before I started (actually the reason why I did not want to start at all) was deck 5, the working deck. That is not included in the kit at all. There are no details in any deck plan. Only the Revell model and some vague pics give some idea. So here is some Chance to improve my build if you have better pics or first-hand information.

the last pics show the steam whistle from Queen Mary (1936), the radar mast with exhausts and the rescue boat platform without the boat itself to demonstate how to construct the david and stuff. All the winches are made by me. The kit only offers LEGO-like cubes. By the way: that's me in Crete. I'm not an addict or freak, but a normal middle-aged person with lots of other interest and a boyfriend who keeps me busy . Ok, maybe a bit crazy when it comes to QM2 according to him.... Have fun to build!

Great job on the model! And definitely thanks for the commentary/review/advice. I know I will never build this, but surely those who do will benefit from your feedback.

the tenders were originally planned with benches within, but the windows were too dark to see anything inside. So I gave up the interior fittings and concentrated on the exterior

The lifeboats: I shaped the underwater hull slightly different that in the kit, but more realistically. For that I changed the inside stiffening. The tarpaulins cover the glue seams and look nice with the printed NO STEPS. I tried to attach decals for the labels. But they did not work and the copyshop refused to print it. The result was not satisfactory so I decided to use a printed transparency.
