Japanese submarine Soryu class, scale 1/400.

As announced, my next project is Japanese submarine Soryu class, scale 1/400.

Very interesting, hi-tech AIP submarine:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sōryū-class_submarine

The model (and the submarine itself), compared to the others is huge - single Letter sheet is completly filled with parts. That is why, this time I decided not to torture my printer. I'm going to paint the model with satin black paint (Pactra acryllic), and then add some dry brush weathering.

The construction is similar to the real one. Cylindrical pressure hull:

Midship section. This long element (~11cm) is very difficult to form, and obtaining the desired shape is crucial for the rest of the build:

Except midship section, the rest of the hull is easy to build, with mininum amount of cardboard, formers, etc.
Aft section, miship is painted:

Nice. Are you finding good, actual pics of the boat to help out with details?

Yep, I did collect about 90 good pics. Unfortunately, the scale of the model does not allow to include all the details...

Hello "strk"

nice to see you've started a new thread.
An interesting modern submarine. Does it have some relation with German ones?

Definitely interesting! It is Japanese own specific design, reminding me a little WW2 type KD6 (Kaidai) submarines.

The conn:
