GPM 028 Bismark
Got a question for the experts. There is an estate sale in my area and among the listings are some paper models. One of them is listed as a GPM Bismark paper model kit 028. I am aware of the kit numbered 182 which is the 1:200 scale, but as far as the 028 kit which appears to be the 1:300, is this a rare kit and what would be a fare price to pay for it? I don't see many references anywhere to this kit in either build reports or anything else for that matter so I am guessing that this kit must be long out of print. Thanks!

Hello ngwithrsd.
It is an old kit, to me is more value as collector's item, as a model to build it shows much older. Search this forum my thread construction of the USS Iowa 1: 300, it is a model of the same time and you will see that it would be about as Bismark

I wouldn't pay too much for it, even if you consider it a collectors item. Value is only what people are willing to pay and outside of other modelers, of which we are a very small minority, I really doubt too many people would see and value in a hand drawn and colored unassembled paper model.

Thanks for the link. I got the kit plus a few others. It was in so so shape although the cover was torn off the front of the kit, the parts inside were intact. I guess what I need now is a build report that is on this ship before I scan it and attempt to build it myself. Looking at the hull framing, it does look similar to the Iowa and that is where I am looking for clarification. Thanks!

If you Google it GPM Biskmarck 028 you'll find a bunch of downloadable free links. Should save you time for scanning and printing. Not sure if copy wright infringements are a problem, but the kit is so out of date and unsalable by todays standards.

And each one of them is pirated, GPM has not given permission to distribute their older kits electronically.

I just took the GPM 028 to the local printer and had it scanned and printed out. The whole lot of them had been taken apart and then put in a pile. Some covers and many of the directions were missing. I have for the most part sorted through and matched the parts to what goes with what. Looks to be about 30 kits...

30 kits... I hope you're kidding. Should be plenty of spare parts though...

At least 30 different kits from what I can see. There's the bismark, what looks to be the Graf spee, the USS Missouri, the Sharnhorst, the IJN Hiryu, the Kirishima, the USS Indianapolis(JSC I think) and the USS Arizona to name a few. No covers, directions, or diagrams left for most, but someone wrote what they were in pencil on the first page of each one. The estate sale lady thinks that the previous owner may have had them pinned up on the wall for some reason since he was a model builder and tinkerer of sorts...
