R/C boat - anyone done this?

OK - playing with this R/C boat was kind of fun! (see my water proofing thread) I want to attempt to build and R/C speedboat completely out of paper. I do understand I will need to seal/paint it in some way shape or form but I want to make it completely out of paper to keep in line with the forum ideals

I think I could probably (maybe?) coat it with something clear so whatever texture is on the paper shows on the model. That might be kinda cool

I think I would be building the base out of 1mm card (to replace the balsa) planking the boat with .5 to 1 mm card then skinning the planking with the model.

Thoughts on feasibility?

Where are you going to get a paper engine?

I'd love to try it, although with a BB or something similar (speedboats just don't have the same appeal as a great RC paper battleship) I always thought one of digital navy's models would be a good starting place. But I've never got past the "imagine if..." phase. Good luck, can't wait to see it! :D

Sounds like a fun project Chris. Did you have a particular model in mind?

I was kind of thinking that maybe one could fireproof some paper and make a pop pop style boat: Build a pop-pop boat.

You could always use epoxy and make paperglass instead of fibreglass...

One of the first paper models I ever saw a picture of and pushed me towards the hobby was the Marcle SD14 in the water. If only I could justify the money for that one

I'm looking forward to your endeavors in this one, Chris!

SD14 General Cargo Ship - A Card Model Kit of the Liberty Ship Replacement for you to build. The model is constructed in much the same way as the original with interior detail including all holds and cabins.

I am considering working on my own design based on some kits that are out there but given my limited skills I dunno.

I like the battleship idea but I need something much simpler given how little spare time I have.... prolly a deep vee racer in the end.
